Subject: Space Channel 5 Part 2 For Dreamcast

Hi there! I wanted to know what happen to the Dreamcast version of Space Channel 5 part 2? I've had the game preorder for 2 months now, has the game been cancelled?

Space Channel 5 Part 2 was recently released in Japan for the PlayStation 2. As for the Dreamcast version it was only available through Japan's D-Direct service. So unfortunately you won't be seeing a US version of Space Channel 5 part 2 for the Dreamcast.

Subject: Non Completed DC Games

I was just wondering if there were any working version of games that Sega had halted due to stopping Dreamcast production. There was a rumor floating around on the internet that there were a couple of games like Half Life & Toe Jam that had copies that could be played although they were scrapped.

Yep, there sure was. The prime example would be that Half Life was in playable form in the beta copy that many publications received, but was canned due to many reasons but mainly being that Sega halted production of the Dreamcast hardware. Toe Jam & Earl 3 was originally planned for the Dreamcast, but is now heading to another next-gen system. The working versions of these games are most likely sealed in a vault in the lower dungeons of the developer's studios.

Subject: Shenmue 2 and VGA

I would like to know if it is possible to play Shenmue 2 on a VGA monitor (or in VGA mode). I have the European version of Shenmue 2, a U.S. Dreamcast, a Naki VGA box and the DC-X import player. The game runs fine on a television but I can't get it to work on my monitor. Please help!

Yes it is possible to play your import Shenmue 2 on a VGA monitor. Shenmue 2 outputs a VGA signal just fine, but you need to get a boot disk that will do the same. Some boot disks wont work with the VGA adapter, so your best bet would be to try out some of the other devices that will allow you to boot import games, like the GameShark CDX.

Subject: Bleem

Hi...How do we get involved with Bleem and all the other stuff we need to get more games played on the Dreamcast?????

The Bleemcast product was a great idea, but Bleem ran into many problems with optimizing the emulator to work with a large chunk of the games. So the time it took to make such a product was very long. Releasing single game packs like Tekken 3, Metal Gear Solid, and Gran Turismo 2 was a great idea and allowed them concentrate on the most popular games. But do to Sony's on going attacks on Bleem, Bleem is now out of business. So the development of the Bleemcast project has been put to a stop. However, you can still purchase the Bleemcast product at your local EB retailer, but quantities are very low. So get it while you can.

Subject: Difference Between US & PAL Dreamcasts

Within a few weeks i will visit the US and I wonder if I buy a dreamcast console in the US, will the European games play on this system?
I know there are problems with PSX and NTSC & PAL games.
Is that the same with Dreamcast?

Some of the recently released Dreamcast PAL games (Shenmue 2, Headhunter, Rez, and Evil Twin) will work on the US system, but you will need an import boot disk like the DC-X or GameShark CDX. Most of the PAL games will not work with NTSC televisions, but if you are running the games on a VGA monitor via a VGA adapter it might work depending if the game is VGA compatible. Good luck! :)

That concludes another great edition of the PlanetDreamcast Mailbag. Stay tuned as we will be back with more answers to your letters. Be sure to keep sending them. As always, you can send your letters to this address. Maybe you will see your letter in the next edition of the PlanetDreamcast Mailbag. Have fun! :)
