- by Celeryface
Hey Dreamcast fans, Celeryface here to answer your questions and concerns about our site, the Dreamcast community, and whatever else you need to know about our favorite little white box, in the latest edition of the PlanetDreamcast Mailbag.
This week we answer letters about when the Dreamcast software will run out, and what we think about it. Also, we talk about Virtua Tennis' realism, and how you can try it out on the courts. Well I don't want to give you all the goods from the letters this week, read on and enjoy.

help have purchased a pso previouly owned [receipt given] but am anable to get game started even offline as it keeps requesting i enter the code & serial number which i don't have store from where purchased don't have it either, am very keen to get into game could you please HELP.
BILLY IRVING
thanks in anticipation
Hey Billy, this is a great question. If you purchase a used copy of Phantasy Star Online, make sure that the serial numbers are included with it because Sega can use those numbers and reset them online to work on your Dreamcast. Unfortunately for you, the serial numbers were not included when you purchased the used copy. Your best bet would be to return this copy of PSO and get a new one with the serial numbers included (you need them). Another thing that you can do is check out your store on September 25th, because Phantasy Star Online Version 2 will be released on that day. Good luck and have fun.

Subject: Virtua Tennis 2K2
Regarding your Tennis 2K2 article for the dreamcast, when referring to the first game, you mentioned that it didn't hurt that Pete Sampras was in the game. I don't know what version you have, but he sure as heck isn't in my version.
We have the same version of Virtua Tennis as Brian. Oh, but what about Pete Sampras? You are right, Pete Sampras wasn't in Virtua Tennis. Our sports writer Josh mistakes mighty Pete for Jim Courier all the time. Don't worry though, he was sent back to his cage right away, I may let him out to play NFL 2K2 this weekend, depending if he behaves. (Throws Josh his crusty bread and warm water) Thanks for the letter Brian.

Subject: Virtua Tennis
I recently picked up Virtua Tennis and have had one major problem with
the gameplay...in certain situations when at the net and the com
opponent lobs it overhead, my player remains frozen briefly not
responding to the controller. Is this a flaw in the game? It is not
controller specific as a new controller did not solve the problem.
This is a rather annoying flaw...
Pete
I hear exactly what you are saying Peter, but the realism is one of the things that make Virtua Tennis such a great game. What I mean is that, when you are running towards the net and your opponent lobs a shot over your head, because of momentum, it is very hard to recover. If you want to try this out (in real life) head down to a tennis court and run at the net and have someone hit a shot over your head. You will then see how hard it can be to recover. Hats off to tennis players, it is a lot harder than it looks. But to answer your question, it's not your controller...it's the realism from the game that causes your player too "freeze" at those shots over your head. Have fun with your game! :)

IS IT TRUE THAT THERE GOING TO STOP MAKING GAMES FOR DREAMCAST?
Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but yes, eventually Sega will stop the production of Dreamcast software. According to Sega, they are officially supporting Dreamcast software until March 2002. Sega has also stated that if the Dreamcast software market is profitable, they will continue making Dreamcast games. So if you enjoy your Dreamcast games, keep buying them and Sega may keep making them, depending if they can profit from the sales.
But I must look at the whole picture here, and not just the Dreamcast side of things. Sega will be releasing their games on multiple consoles. This fall we will see Sega titles on the Gameboy Advance, PlayStation 2, Gamecube, and Xbox. So we will continue getting the Sega games that we all love, but it looks like the last major US Dreamcast release will be Shenmue II. You never know though, Sega might have something for Dreamcast owners after Shenmue II. We will have to wait and see. One thing is for sure, the Dreamcast will go out with a *BANG*.

Hey Kevin. Franchise doesn't create men just like that, first you have to.... Wait what are we talking about here? :P

thps 3 is it gonna happend on the dreamcast.
any good news about nhl 2k2 or some relaese dates .they say winter 2001 , winter 2001 start dec 21 so will say 2002.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 on the Dreamcast. That is a headline that I am wishing to hit the PlanetDreamcast news, but it is unlikely that it will happen. The development of THPS3 has been greatly targeted for the Gamecube, PlayStation 2, and most likely the Xbox as well. So a Dreamcast port, as much as we want it, doesn't look like a possibility.
Currently Sega is saying that NHL 2K2 is coming out in Winter 2001, like you said, but Winter 2001 is a very broad release date. As soon Sega announces the release date for NHL 2K2, you can bet we will have the news posted right away on PlanetDreamcast. Stay tuned.

I have owned my Dreamcast since October of 1999 and I still play it almost every day... kinda strange for a system that's "dead", huh? Sure, there aren't many (hardly any!!) games coming out for it now, but as long as solid titles come out, I'll buy them. When I was at Electronics Boutique on wednesday, I asked a guy working there when the Metal Gear Solid bleem! was coming out, and he told me that ALL bleem! games have been cancelled!! I believe him b/c I know that EB is one of the only places that carry bleem!, but your site and the bleem! site still talk like they're coming out... SO WHAT'S THE DEAL?
Hey Linda, glad to hear that you enjoy your Dreamcast so much. If you are looking for some new titles this year, here are some worth checking out once they hit stores: Ooga Booga, NFL 2K2, NBA 2K2, Shenmue II, Bomberman Online, Tennis 2K2, Alone in the Dark 4, PSO Version 2, and much more. With this solid Dreamcast fall lineup, you will be in for some great fun this year.
To get to your Bleemcast question. We have been in contact with Bleem for awhile now, and they have told us that the Tekken 3 and Metal Gear Solid discs are almost complete, and will be sent for mastering very soon. If all goes well, Bleem will release Bleemcast support for WWF Smackdown and Final Fantasy IX. You can catch all the latest Bleemcast news here at PlanetDreamcast, and at Bleem's official website.
Next week marks the release of Phantasy Star Online Version 2, and to celebrate the release we will be having a PSO Version 2 themed mailbag. Have an interesting story to share? Pull an all nighter with PSO Version 2? Want to send us your impressions of the game? You can send your letters to this address. Maybe you will see your letter in the next edition of the PlanetDreamcast Mailbag. Have fun! :)
