01/17/02 - NHL 2K2, Rez, Dreamcast Surprise, and DC Shelf Life.
- by Celeryface

Hey Dreamcast fans, Celeryface here to answer your questions and concerns about our site, the Dreamcast community, and whatever else you need to know about our favorite little white box, in the latest edition of the PlanetDreamcast Mailbag.

The Mailbag is back and we have hit the 50th edition of this fine informative feature. This is the time where you get to send in your letters for us to read and hopefully we can help you out with our answers.

This week we answer some of your questions and concerns about NHL 2K2, Rez, Smash Pack Vol. 2, and more. Now on with the mailbag, your letter might be in there!

From: Erik Leijon
Subject: Mailbag Question (NHL 2K2)

Quick Question. Will NHL 2K2 be the last DC game released in North America?

As of this moment, yes. Sega has scheduled NHL 2K2 to be the last Dreamcast game that they will publish. Some still have hope that Sega will bring out more games for our favorite little white box, but Sega has made no idications that they are still interested in releasing anymore games on the Dreamcast. Hopefully they will suprise us all with a few goodies.

Subject: Smash Pack Vol. 2?

Hey! Has there been any talk of SEGA making a second volume of the SEGA Smash Pack? If not, they should make it! I wouldn't mind if was the last Dreamcast game!

Anyway, if there was a Vol. 2 coming, what titles would you want? I'd want Streets of Rage 3, Golden Axe 2 and 3, Shinobi 3, Virtua Cop 1, House of the Dead 1, Sonic 2, Vectorman 2, Sonic 3D, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic the Fighters, and that Golden Axe fighting game.

As cool as it would be, Sega hasn't given out any hints on another relase of the Smash Pack for the Dreamcast. But that doesn't mean that they won't release anymore volumes. Sega is planning to release the Smash Pack on many platforms other than the Dreamcast, the first being the Gameboy Advance in May 2002. As for games I would like to see, I agree with most of your suggestions but I would add in every single Genesis game into the volume. ;P

Subject: Price Cuts/DC Games Shelf Life

I actually have a few Q's for your mailbag. First is there any news on the last DC game NHL2K2? and how long will current DC games continue to be on store shelves, and any forthcoming game price cuts? Thanks.

The latest on NHL 2K2 is that it is still coming and it should hit store shelves on February 12, 2002. According to Sega's official statement, Sega will support the Dreamcast until March 2002. This could mean many things, but it is really totally up to the retailers on how long they will keep Dreamcast games on their shelves. The $49.99 system price was the last price drop that you will get on the Dreamcast hardware, but the game prices should keep getting cheaper as the stores might want to clear out their stock. Enjoy the games! :)

Subject: Rez

Do you know if REZ is available for DC and even though it`s in japanese can we get a hang of the game while understanding nothing?

Rez is available for the Dreamcast in Japan and Europe. The Euro version is in full english and you can play it just as if you bought it in the US (but you would have to import it, obviously). So if you grab the Euro version and an import boot disk, you are all set to play it on your US Dreamcast.

Subject: Party Machine!!!

I call my dreamcast the "Party Machine" because its the main system that everybody play in my house than PS2 or XBOX. What do you call your Dreamcast?

I call my Dreamcast, "Dreamcast" and "The little white box that could". :P

Subject: DC Last Surprise

Do u know what the surprise is in the last dc i want to know....

So do I! There hasn't been an official announcement on what the surprise in the last Dreamcast is. Did anyone who got a Dreamcsat recently get something special with it? It's always possible that the very last Dreamcast is sitting somewhere in a deserted department store in the middle of the country. So if you see any Dreamcasts laying around your stores, be sure to pick one up because it could possibly be the very last one that is packed with a hidden surprise. If you happen to discover the special surprise be sure to send us an email. Good luck. :)

That concludes another great edition of the PlanetDreamcast Mailbag. Stay tuned as we will be back with more answers to your letters. Be sure to keep sending them. As always, you can send your letters to this address. Maybe you will see your letter in the next edition of the PlanetDreamcast Mailbag. Have fun! :)
