Dreamcast Soccer Shootout
A candid comparison of the soccer titles available for your Dreamcast - by Tren

PDC Soccer Shootout
Soccer (or football as its known to the rest of the world, bar the US) is one of the worlds most popular pasttimes. Since video game systems have existed, developers have strived to create the ultimate video game replication of soccer. Some games go for full-on simulation, trying to completely emulate every aspect of the sport, whilst other games concentrate more on the fun element (with outrageous swerving shots, net blasters, etc.). And then theres the games which fall in-between, trying to achieve the perfect balance between fun and simulation.

Compared to the PSX and N64, the Dreamcast doesnt really have its fair share of soccer titles. So far, only one such title has received the PlanetDreamcast review treatment, that being Virtua Striker 2 (known as Virtua Striker 2000.1 in Europe and Japan). However, if you're any sort of soccer fan youll inevitably want to know which of the DC soccer games you should throw down your hard-earned cash for, and why. Thats what this article will help you answer, by comparing the Dreamcasts three soccer titles in a number of pertinent categories. The descriptions contained therein will hopefully help you decide which title will best suit your Dreamcast soccer needs.

The first of the three games is Virtua Striker 2, Segas Model 3 to Naomi arcade footballer, converted to the Dreamcast. The second of the three titles is Sega Worldwide Soccer (along with its update Euro Edition). SWWS97 was the pride and joy of Sega Saturn soccer fans as it bettered nearly all of the day's PSX soccer titles, but unfortunately the Dreamcast incarnation of the title has been handled by a different developer and doesnt touch the Saturn original. SWWS2K was released shortly after the Dreamcasts launch in Europe, and the Euro Edition was released over the Summer, hoping to improve on the shortcomings of the original. The final title we'll cover is UEFA Striker. This came out during the European Dreamcast launch and has only recently, over the summer, been released in the States under the moniker Striker Pro 2000.
