5/5/01 - Half-Life, Shenmue and Japanese Buses
- by RaptoR
Welcome to the PDC Mailbag. Every week we toss in a bunch
of letters from our readers and do our best to dazzle you
with wit and wisdom. Roughly, that translates to copying/pasting
your emails and writing the first thing that comes to mind.
But hey, you take what you can get. If you have something
you want to contribute to the Mailbag, send it to this
address!

Subject: Tokyo Bus Guide ?
Hi PDC, I have been looking through a directory of dc games
with no images and have come across a title called " Tokyo
Bus Guide " and wondered what type of game it was and what
kind of rating it had? Have you ever heard of this game?
If you can assist in any way it would be very much appreciated,
thank you.
Best regards,
Siobhan

Personally, I've never heard of the game. It's certainly
not in our Dreamcast
Games Database. Chances are it was one of those
weird "trying-to-be-creative" titles that didn't
get a release outside of Japan. Judging by the less than inspiring
title, it doesn't look like you're missing out on much.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK. We're
not really sure how this one slipped through the net. AM2's
masterpiece is one of, if not the best RPG on Dreamcast. It'll
be added to our Best
Dreamcast Games section shortly.

Perhaps. It might help if you told us the name of the
game in question :)

Subject: PSO Addict
I have a problem. I can't sleep at night. I can't eat
or move for 6 hrs. straight at times. And I think I have
found the source of the problem.....Phantasy Star Online.
I was wondering if you knew of any clinics that are like
AA for PSO addicts? I mean I get no sleep, I quit my job,
and my girlfriend is getting sick of hearing about how I
got to lvl. 100 with my 1st character. I have 8 great new
games that I haven't even touched yet. I wake up after my
2 hrs. sleep each night worrying that I need to trade for
a C-Bringer's Rifle. I feel that Sega should have had a
warning on the package stating, "Warning: Due to this game's
addictive nature it might consume your life." What should
I do? Help me!!
On another topic, I was wondering if you have heard anything
about whether Heroes Of Might and Magic 3 is still coming
out for the DC? I know it's out for PS2, but it's been delayed
for the DC for a long time. Also, how about Tropico? And
is Half-Life EVER coming out for DC? Thanks for your help.
I appreciate it.
As for your PSO problem, the only thing that can cure it
is PSO ver. 2 :). We've had no further news on Might of Magic
3, but judging by the PC versions, its unlikely you'll be missing
out on much. Tropico has only just been released on the PC,
so we'll probably have to wait a while for a DC conversion.
Half-Life may sadly have to be canned. The game's developers
are having problems with the game causing DC's to overheat.
The release date has been pushed back to June, and it's also
possible that the game will be cancelled altogether if this
problem isn't sorted.

Subject: Is Soldier of Fortune still coming on Dreamcast??!
Hi, great fan of the site. I'm just wondering if SOF is
still coming on dreamcast??! I like fps games and I already
own Q3:Arena and UT and Im still waiting fof Half-Life too(
though they keep changing the release dates). And I read
some news that a few dreamcast titles are being canned and
hopefully not SOF and Half-Life. Im just waiting for these
titles so I can complete my collection.
Is there any good racing titles on Dreamcast??! I need
a racing game with good graphics, controls, and a good replay
value. Well, thats all. Thanks in advance.
SOF is still coming to Dreamcast, it's just not out yet.
As for Half-Life, see the reply above for information on that
(yes, it could be canned). The best DC racers can be found
in out Best
Games Section, but personally, I'd recommend MSR, Sega
GT or F355.

Subject: Crazy Taxi 2
Hi. What Bad Religion tunes can I look forward to hearing
in Crazy Taxi 2? Much appreciated.
Joe Moore
Not a lot of information has been made available on the actual
tracks that will appear in Crazy Taxi 2. The only information
we have at the moment is that The Offspring and Bad Regligion
are definately providing the soundtrack to Crazy Taxi 2. Check
the news page a little closer to the game's release date.

I had a couple of questions I can't seem to get answered
at anywhere, so hopefully you can help me out...here it
goes.
1) How long will companies continue putting out new discs
to there games if Kmart, Target, and other stores are trying
to get rid of all there Dreamcast inventory. Do you see
any games becoming rare or hard to find?
2) Why doesn't Sega release a Smash Pack with all Saturn
games like Nights, Burning Rangers, Panzer Dragoon Saga,
WSB'98, Sega Rally, VF2...games like that, it's the least
they could do for ditching the system
Thanks for your time,
Andrew FitzGerald
1- Dreamcast
games will continue to be sold until (and possibly after)
Sega stops producing them in March 2002. The same goes for
Dreamcast units. Many stores are trying to clear out old Dreamcasts,
but that isn't bad news.
2-
Sega may release a Saturn Smash Pack, but it's unlikely. What's
more likely is another Smash Pack based around yet more Genesis
games. We may have to wait a little later for a Saturn Smash
Pack.

Subject: Capcom vs. SNK
Hello, I reckon Capcom vs. SNK should be one of the best
fighting games. But from what I have seen (on your website),
it doesn't seem you have reviewed this game. Whether it
it out in the US or not, I'm unsure. But the this is, it
IS on the DC and it's available in Australia. Just like
to let you know.
Thanx
If it's Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 that you're
talking about, then you can find a full review of it here.

Subject: Sonic and Mario
You would have probably noticed this on the chat forums
but Sonic and Mario in a game together? I must know more.
A lot goes on in gaming forums. You should definately
take reports like this with a pinch of salt. Sega may be developing
for the Nintendo GameCube and Gameboy now, but it's very,
very unlikely that we'll ever see Sonic and Mario together
in an official Sega/Nintendo game. If you want Sonic, then
get Sonic Adventure
2, due for a June release.

A number of PlayStation 2's are scratching disks. Many
people have had to get there PS2's replaced. This is a huge
problem for Sony. It must be costing them a forune to replace
all thos PS2's. It also puts Dreamcast back in the competition.
Sony have been replacing the machines but not the games.
This will make people go mad at Sony and Sega may be at
the top for another 2 months.
As for the PS2 game-scratching, that's all down to Sony
rushing out the PS2. They can hardly be blamed for rushing,
as they knew there would be a massive demand for the new console.
It's not really this that makes the Dreamcast an option for
console gamers. The draw of the Dreamcast is the number of
games that are available at the moment for very little money.
The DC has lots of kickass titles, and theres something for
everyone.

Subject: Dreamcast Issue
My Dreamcast no longer reads the disks. I've tried cleaning
everything. Can you help?
Thanks - Cole Bielskis
Tried lens cleaner disks? Perhaps it's the disk itself
that's damaged. Check it for scratches, etc. Otherwise, we
can't really help you without further info. If it's still
under warranty, try returning it to the store where you bought
it, and asking them for help.

Subject: Your name?
With the sudden demise of the Dreamcast, why not just
calling yourselves PlanetSega or something along those lines.
PlanetGenesis might work, too. It's just more people have
regard and respect to the Genesis and Sega than to the Dreamcast.
While we'll cover some retro news on the site, PDC will
continue to be PDC. We are a Dreamcast site, and we'll keep
covering the Dreamcast right up until there's nothing left
to cover. If it's Genesis of classic Sega information you're
after, then try visitng out sister site, ClassicGaming.com.

Subject: an advice
Hello, Gamespy Network sites are very useful and interesting.
PlanetHalfLife and PlanetDiablo are the ones I prefer. I
bought Phantasy Star Online and this terrible online game
can be the subject of a new site : PlanetPhantasyStar. I
think it could run well. This site could include tips, screenshots
and more ...
Answer me about it ...
Thanks
Terrible? PSO? You sure you've got the right word there,
Sylvian? Yes, GameSpy Network sites are very interesting and
useful. It's unlikely that a PlanetPhantasyStar will appear.
PSO is a console game, and, as popular as it may be on the
Dreamcast, most Planet sites are based around PC games with
multiplayer capacity. If you're looking for top PSO coverage
and info, check out PSO World, on
the GameSpy Network.
That's it for this Mailbag. Have a burning question? First
extinguish the damn thing (get it!?), and then send it to
this handy address.
