An inside look at the development of Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear for the Dreamcast
Sometimes it's nice to see things from a different perspective.
That's the idea behind this feature, which is a "Designer's Diary" for Majesco's upcoming Dreamcast port of Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear. The game will feature both the Urban Operations expansion pack and extensive multiplayer options, definitely making it one to watch. We've hooked up with David Elmekies, the director of product development at Pipe Dream Interactive (Majesco's internal development studio). David is responsible for the company’s product development across all platforms, and has been instrumental in establishing the Pipe Dream Interactive development teams and dramatically reducing product development cycles and costs.
David will be keeping us up to date on the Rogue Spear project's achievements, hurdles, highs, and lows, checking in with the latest news every three weeks.
Entry One: August 1, 2000 - Today's initial entry will give you a primer on what's been done so far, as well as where the team is planning to go next. Oh yes, there's a bunch of screenshots, too. Enjoy!
Entry Two: August 22, 2000 - This week, David reveals what compromises must be made to fit such a large game onto a console, and also tells us what's up with the mouse, keyboard, and other peripheral support. New shots, too.
Entry Three: September 20, 2000 - A quick update. The bug-squashing continues, as the team works to reach Alpha status. Also: fun with peripherals.
Final Entry: October 24, 2000 - Final beta status is almost within reach. David takes a quick time-out to fill us in on what's up. Almost there!
